The Mango Orchard

Wednesday 19 October
The Electric Theatre 4.15pm £6 (£5 Friends of GBF, concessions)

As a child, Robin Bayley loved the stories about his great-grandfather's Latin American adventures: brushes with bandits, wild jungle journeys, hidden bags of silver.... But he felt there was something missing from these family tales: the truth. So he set off in his ancestor's footsteps. On his quest he encounters witches, drug dealers, an ex-Nazi diamond trader and Colombian guerrilla fighters. And a whole new family. He also discovers that his great-grandfather not only narrowly escaped the Mexican Revolution; he had a hand in starting it. Robin has had careers in advertising and children's TV, which he gave up to travel; his amazing journey was the subject of a BBC Inside Out documentary earlier this year. He has also sung in opera and was once cast as a drug smuggler in a Bollywood film.
