Entrants were asked to write stories about their street, where they lived or live, past or present. It could be: childhood memories, friendships or love affairs forged, relationships with neighbours – good or bad! It could be about the physical buildings – from flats to grand houses to the emotions of moving house or moving somewhere new. What was important was that it celebrates or represents the theme of their home, street or community.
The Competition
The Competition is an annual event attracting many entries. Entries for the Competition are eligible from all writers aged 16 years and over.
The Prizes
A prize of £250 is awarded to the winner and the story will be read on BBC Southern Counties Radio. It will also be featured on the Guildford Book Festival and BBC Southern Counties websites. A runner’s up prize of £50 in Book Tokens is also be awarded.
