David Ellwand has been a professional photographer for over thirty years – a time that has seen great change in the industry. During that time he has collected and experimented with many different types of film cameras, as well as working with the latest digital technology. RetroPhoto illustrates his passion for the camera as design icon, technological masterpiece and the ultimate creative tool. Over one hundred vintage film cameras feature in the book, each illustrated with a photograph taken by the camera, with tips on how to find them and how to use them today. In his talk, David will be showcasing some of his favourite cameras, tracing their history and demonstrating how to get the best of both worlds by combining vintage camera technology with modern digital arts. From one-off home-built curiosities to popular boot-sale finds, this is an event for photography buffs as well as those keen to experiment with film.
David Ellwand is best known as the author and photographic illustrator of over 30 books for children.
