In this fascinating biography Paul Arnott reveals the full story of a ship that changed so many lives.

Built by German-Jewish shipbuilders in 1930 and requisitioned by the Nazis for propoganda ‘cruises’, it was used to transport Norwegian Jews to Auschwitz, before being captured by the British and renamed. But it’s a single voyage from the Caribbean in June 1948 bringing the first-wave of black migrants that led to its name being ingrained in British history, a symbolic beginning to our multicultural nation, synonymous with injustices and cover-ups.
